Sam and I took the ferry from Okracoke Island to the main land, with our sights on Beaufort NC. I had heard how Southern this town was so figured I would check it out for myself (well with Sam of course).
It did not disappoint. Once I found a shaded parking spot for the van (under a really BIG tree by the courthouse), I ventured down to the old town main street along the water. Had lunch at the bar in a restaurant adjacent to the water. Met some really interesting people (the stories!). Then walked around town enjoying all the historical homes, each one renovated with great detail.
Awesome van parking for shade.

another great historical home
Back to Sam and the van. We decided to get a campsite in the national forest about 10 miles south of Beaufort.
Sam chillin at the campsite.
Next stop, back home to Winston Salem. Not bad for our first real road trip.
